Replication vs. Repetition
SC.7.N.1.2: Differentiating replication from repetition
VS
REPETITION
DEFINITION:
Performing multiple trials of the same experiment
by the same person using the same methods
and conditions.
EXAMPLE 1:
A student measures plant growth five times
using the same ruler and technique.
EXAMPLE 2:
A scientist tests chemical reactions 10 times
to ensure consistent results.
REPLICATION
DEFINITION:
Different scientists reproducing an experiment
to verify the results and confirm scientific
findings.
EXAMPLE 1:
Three separate research teams from different
countries verify a climate change study.
EXAMPLE 2:
Multiple hospitals independently test a new
medical treatment before clinical use.

Both are essential for scientific validity!
Same person, multiple trials
Different scientists, same experiment
